SMART Stand Allocation System (SMART/STAND)
The SMART Airport Stand Allocation System is an easy to use, intelligent and cost-effective airport management tool to plan and control the utilization of airport ramps/aprons. It enables the airport to plan and monitor (in real-time) the movement of aircraft on the ground. The SMART/STAND provides an aerial graphical view of the ramp and operators can see the available and allocated stands at any time. The system displays the allocation of stands to the air traffic controller to direct the aircraft to the correct stand/gate.
SMART/STAND can run in either the operating or scheduling mode. In the scheduling mode it is used for stand planning and for ‘what-if’ analysis to evaluate the effect different operational scenarios have on projected operations. This is extremely useful for strategic and tactical capacity and resource planning.
In the operational mode it displays the actual stand allocation based on real-time flight information from the Airport Operational Database System (SMART/AODB). Real-time updates of actual operations are displayed and Airport operators are alerted to status changes and potential and actual conflicts. The operator has expert support from SMART/STAND to re-allocate stand positions and have the option to do automated reallocation.
A user-friendly GUI allows the Airport to load the layout of the stand and capture stand operating rules. These rules include:
The automated rule based stand planning is done by using sophisticated allocation algorithms and user-defined rules. A history of the utilization (aircraft and occupancy time) of stands is maintained within the system and the system also allows for the recording of first and last-bag times for statistical analysis and resource planning.
SMART/STAND integrates Airport Operational Data Base System (SMART/AODB) and changes or updates in flight information are immediately available to re-allocate stands if required.
